In 2009, Morris and Associates represented a class of persons comprising all Nordstrom customers in California who had received, but not used prior to their expiration, "Nordstrom Notes." The action sought to reimburse all customers whose "Nordstrom Notes" had expired. The expiration dates were in less than ten-point font. California law requires all Gift Certificates which contain expiration dates to ensure that they appear in at least ten-point font.

After prevailing on a motion for Summary Judgment, the case settled allowing all damaged California customers to be compensated. In related cases, Morris and Associates is currently representing plaintiffs in class actions against PetSmart and BestBuy because these companies issued Gift Cards with language on their reverse side indicating they are "not redeemable for cash." In California, pursuant to Civil Code section 1749.5 et seq,. Gift Cards with balances of less than $10 are redeemable for cash.
